Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Open All Year- Santa Cruz, California

     The Santa Cruz Main Beach has been welcoming vacationers since the mid-1800s when bathhouses and tent camps lined the waterfront. Seymour Marine Discovery Center- Open All Year- Santa Cruz, California

Capitola Begonia Festival- Labor Day Weekend, Aug/Sept - Capitola, California

    The homespun Capitola Begonia Festival has its roots in the moist, cool coastal climate of Santa Cruz County, California, which is eminently hospitable to the tuberous begonia. Major begonia growers were located in Capitola and Santa Cruz in the mid-20th Century, and a festival in late summer--when the begonias are in spectacular bloom--was a natural way to extend the late-summer coastal tourist season. Tours of the Monarch Butterfly Grove - November Weekends - Natural Bridges State Park, Santa Cruz, California

    Natural Bridges State Beach is world-renowned for its yearly migration of monarch butterflies. Visitors can see thousands during the butterflies' peak season. The best time to see monarchs in the park is usually from mid-October to late January. (Dates the butterflies arrive and leave can vary widely from year to year).

Wharf to Wharf Race - 4th Sunday in July - Santa Cruz to Capitola, California

    Each year, on the fourth Sunday in July, thousands of runners from across America and around the globe return to Santa Cruz, California for the annual six-mile race to Capitola-by-the-Sea. First run in 1973 by a handful of locals, the Wharf to Wharf Race today enjoys a gourmet reputation in running circles worldwide. Its scenic, seaside setting, perfect weather, and festive beachparty atmosphere make it a favorite of casual joggers and elite athletes alike. Limited to 15,000 runners on a first-come-first-served basis, its field sells out months in advance. Runners are thrilled just to get in!
